You can put a piece of brass in a velvet box, under perfect lighting, with a fancy label. It looks expensive. But the moment life applies a little heat or pressure, it tarnishes. Exposes itself.
Conversely, you can wrap a 24-karat gold chain in newspaper. Looks messy. But the weight is real. The value’s undeniable.
