Why I stopped dreaming and started building

The difference between a dream and a plan is a spreadsheet.

The phone rang the other day. It was my daughter.

If you know us, you know the dynamic. She’s the dreamer—highly emotional, big ideas, infinite “what ifs.” I’m the one she calls when the “what ifs” get too loud.

She calls me “The Voice of Reason.” Usually it’s a compliment. Sometimes it’s an accusation.

On this call, she needed ground under her feet. She was spinning out on a new idea, drowning in possibilities. She didn’t need a cheerleader. She needed a map.
